Cinnamon Essential Oil's Production Process. How it is made.

1. Cinnamon tree for Essential Oils making in General

The scientific name of cinnamon Cinnamonmum cassia Bl; Belonging to the genus Cinamonmum; Family: Lauraceae.
Cinnamon Vietnam belongs to the Cassia genus . It is used for extracting essential oils and is called cinnamon essential oil, the mainly materials areas are Yen Bai and Lao Cai, a few in Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen.
Now a day, cinnamon is one of the biggest provider for Essential Oils Industries, the application of cinnamon oil is increasingly and widespread. Cinnamon has therapeutic uses such as supportive treatment related to respiratory, arthritis, musculoskeletal diseases.

2. Distillation methods of cinnamon oil

Cinnamon oil is difficult to extract compared to most other essential oils, there are many methods for extracting but the method of extracting by steam is the most efficient. The product does not contain impurities, which is very safe for health and are eligible for export.

3. Distillation process of pure essential oils consists of the following steps

3.1 Areas for cinnamon planting:

Cinnamon areas can be used for the production of essential oils including Yen Bai, Lao Cai, which is the area provides the best quality and quantity. In addition, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai is also two areas of significant cinnamon quantity. Normally, to build an extract cinnamon essential oil factory, it requires a minimum area of 4,000ha, in additional cinnamon trees with an age of one year or above is necessary.

3.2 Material collection


The essential oils are the leaves, branches, and leaves of cinnamon.
In the harvesting season, cinnamon barks is peeled; wood, leaves, shells are harvested separately. Branches and leaves are dried and stored. If using for distillation, it is necessary to make sure that the storage and incubation time is the most suitable. So that the quality of oil would be the highest. Normally, after 1 month, the raw material is stored in the warehouse, it will be qualified to produce essential oils.

3.3 Essential oil production process


Qualified cinnamon will be put into the production of essential oils.
1./ First, cinnamon is crushed by a large mill and stored in a cage of material (about 1 ton of material per cage). After loading, the crane is put into the autoclave.
2./ The autoclave should be sufficiently pressurized because the cinnamon extract needs at least 1 atmospheric pressure and up to 5 atmospheres.
3./ After being put into the autoclave, the material will be covered and tightened.
4./ Heating the boiler to provide steam for the extraction.
5./ The principle of cinnamon distillation method is similar to the principle of making wine.
6./ Steam from the boiler is fed through an autoclave, steam will bring along the oil and passed through a cooler. The coolant will reduce the steam temperature from about 160 degrees to about 30 degrees (liquefied).
7./ The solution is a mixture of oil + water, this solution will be stored in 4 settlers, cinnamon oil is heavier than water, so it will sink down (usually takes about 1 hour to completely separate).
Each such autoclave will produce 4-7 kg of essential oil.
8./ Cinnamon oil after settling down will be taken out of can and taken to storage, then further refined to separate water and dirt.

4. Packing Cinnamon Essential Oil

Due to the large amount of Cinnamon essential oil, which exceeds the domestic consumption. Most of the essential oil of cinnamon is exported to the Chinese market, about 20% are exported to European and American. Export products are packed into 200 kgs drums.
Domestic products are packed in cans of 1 kg, 5 kgs, 10 kgs, 30 kgs... and small bottles dedicated 10, 20, 50, 100 ml.
