What is Star Anise?

Star Anise, also known as aniseed, anis seed, or octagon, which mean 8 petals in Chinese, is a spicy, fragrant. They are year-round trees, native to China and Northeastern of Vietnam.

The Effect of Star Anise

In traditional medicine in our country as well as in China, Japan, India ... Star Anise is used as a medication, causing gastrointestinal irritation, abdominal pain, pain relief, reduce the contraction in the stomach, in gut, milk benefit, vomiting, pain, rheumatism, back pain, poisoning of meat, fish and cured for snake bites, stimulates taste, regulates blood, anti fatigue and especially good at flu curing.

In western medicine Star Anise Oil is consider to be the elixir, which strengthen the intestinal motility, treat abdominal pain, increase respiratory secretions, help digestion, reduce pain, eliminate phlegm. Anise oil, which inhibits the growth of TB bacteria and other bacterial species, should be used as an antiseptic and epidural anti-fungal.

How to choose

How to use anise flowers in cooking

There are two types of Star Anise: Illicium verum and Fructus foeniculi. Illicium verum tastes like licorice, but spicy and more nutritious, are important ingredients to make the dough flavor.
